Name: Jesse McCarthy
Age: Sixteen
Description: Jesse has piercing light blue eyes, almost white like clouds. She has long, straight black hair that is usually pulled up in a ponytail. Her height is about 5' 9", and she weighs in at about 137 pounds. She's very fast at running, and her endurance (both cardiovascular and muscular) is extremely efficient. {I have no idea what adjective to use there, so bear with me.} She has an athletic build with a little bit of a gymnast somewhere in there.
Sexuality: Straight (strictly)
Olympian parent: Aeolus
Mortal Parent: Caroline McCarthy (unknown)
Personality: To say the very least, Jesse has little mood swings now and then. She's extremely tempermental, and will go off at the slightest thing. She's somewhat impatient when it comes to getting what she wants. But she's also very loyal if she knows you (unless she hates you) and although she has a bit of a trust issue, she never wants to be alone for long. She is never caring or nice outright, and that is what pushes people away from her the most. But she tries to be less than hostile to others.
Jesse LOVES being active in any way possible, whether it be running or playing sports or whatever else. She also likes to do outdoorsy stuff, like camping and hiking and fishing. And, strangely enough, she loves to eavesdrop on conversations that aren't her own. And she likes to start collections of small things, like buttons or rocks or feathers. Anything easy to find but all unique.
Alongside that, she absolutely HATES having to be still for any amount of time. Just like the wind, she's in constant motion. She's also very claustrophobic, and will avoid small rooms or cramped places the best she can. They make her feel like she's trapped, like she can't move around freely. She also dislikes people that think they're better than anyone else. Most of the time, she puts them in their place, either by winning an argument or telling them off. And on top of that, she's TERRIFIED of heights. (ironically)
Overall, she's just a teenager with a hardened shell and soft heart. (Cheesy much? Lol)
History: Caroline and Aeolus met at the Channel 5 news weather station, where they were both working as meteorologists. Aeolus, of course, was only staying for a few days. And Caroline was only there on a business trip. Her full time job was in upstate New York.
Even though they were not together long, they hit it off and did the fricky frack the second night they saw each other. After that, Aeolus disappeared without another word to Caroline.
Caroline flew back to Albany, and continued her work as a meteorologist. It wasn't until weeks later that she found out she was pregnant with a child. She dreaded the prospect of having a child in the same home as herself, and having to actually care for it. (To be frank, she wasn't eager to be a mom)
So, when her child was born, she immediately put her up for adoption, not caring enough to name her. The nurse that delivered her took the baby away to a different room, simply because Caroline didn't want to even see the child.
After a few months, the nameless child was adopted by a young couple - Cody and Kathy Vreeland - that couldn't have a baby of their own. They named her Jesse, and left her last name as it was.
Jesse grew up in Brooklyn, with her adopted parents. She tried her best to fit in at school, and fit in she did. Jesse swiftly became one of the popular girls (even in elementary), but she didn't treat everyone like they were garbage, unlike most of the popular students. A lot of people liked her for who she was, not what she looked like.
In Junior High, she ran for Student Body, and tried out for the basketball, track, and volleyball teams. Usually, she made it on the sports teams, but the Student Body was quite a gamble.
Academically, Jesse kept her grades up, and she liked her teachers, but she definitely wasn't in any honors classes and NEVER was close to the best in her class. But she tried all the same.
At home, she got along with her adopted parents, but not like a real family. Jesse accepted them as her legal guardians, and she went to them for permission or help, but they weren't her mom and dad.
On her fourteenth birthday, there was a knock at the door. Her parents had gone out to get her a few presents, so Jesse, being home alone, hesitantly answered it. A boy stood there, looking tattered and beaten up. He couldn't have been over the age of six. In a small, timid voice, he asked if he could come in and call his parents. Of course Jesse let him in. He looked so scared and hurt. What could possibly go wrong?
Immediately after the door closed, the boy collapsed onto all fours. For a moment, it looked like he was going to hurl, but his form started to morph and change. Jesse, terrified out of her mind, fled to the kitchen, grabbing a chef knife from the cupboard. She had no idea what she was going to do with it, but an almost primal instinct had taken over.
A huge, hellish looking thing tromped into the kitchen, baring needle point fangs and sharpened claws. Without a moment's hesitation, the monster lunged. Jesse's mind went into hyperdrive, and she dodged away, slashing upwards with the chef knife.
This went on for what seemed like hours - dodge slash, dodge slash - until the thing finally exploded into dust. After that, all she remembered was pure darkness.
Days later, Jesse woke with a start in a room that looked like an infirmary; cots and first aid supplies lay everywhere. Before she could consider where she could be, a guy walked in. He looked to be around the age of twenty, with eyes that seemed to catch every detail. When he saw that Jesse was awake, he grinned, as if he'd just beaten someone in a game of chess.
He introduced himself as Charlie Zimmerman, with a firm hand shake. He calmly explained where she was - a motel deep in the forests of New York - what had happened to get her here - after she'd killed that monster, she passed out from exhaustion and shock. A student from her school had been stationed to watch her, and had seen the monster enter her house. Before he got to her though, she'd killed the thing, and he came in to her unconscious, clutching a chef knife. He'd brought her here, with the help of a few other demigods in the area - and what she was. A demigod.
Jesse vaguely remembered Greek mythology lessons in school, how they were half god and half mortal. She would've laughed if she hadn't seen the monster, or for how serious Charlie sounded. But for some reason, she believed him. It seemed impossible, but she knew he was right. She didn't know how, but he just was.
Charlie have her a tour of the motel, introducing her to the demigods who'd brought her here from Brooklyn. He explained a brief history of what everybody's goals here were. There was a camp in Long Island full of demigods just like them, but they opposed the very things that Charlie and these demigods believed; mortals had caused all the good things to happen, but the gods stripped them of that title and took it for themselves. So they were basically waging a war with the gods. But to Jesse, it made perfect sense. They deserved that title, not the gods.
So Jesse stayed there, with all the other demigods. After all, she had no where else to go. By what Charlie said, this was the only place that they were safe, all except that wretched camp. She trained with the other demigods, mostly with a dagger, and soon had mastered the weapon.
One night, as everyone was clearing their plates after dinner, a glowing symbol appeared over her head. It was an image of a face, blowing wind from its mouth. Charlie, who had seen it first, motioned for everyone to be silent. "Hail," he said with a strong tone, "To Jesse McCarthy, daughter of Aeolus, god of the wind." Everyone bowed, and all was silent for a moment. Then cheers and clapping broke out around the room, a ruckus worthy of the super bowl. Jesse received numerous high fives and handshakes and slaps on the back. She felt as though she finally belonged there.
But after nearly two years of staying with Charlie and his followers, Jesse started to wonder about Charlie's views. Wouldn't killing the gods for a title do more bad than good?
Only a few days later, a spy was flushed out of the motel. Jesse didn't catch much of what had happened, but she had heard this: "Why help camp? Because to me, family is important, and sometimes you can't help who your family is". Jesse wasn't a total Numbskull. She now knew that something a lot bigger was going on here. Maybe... Maybe Charlie was wrong. Maybe the camp has the right ideas.
She pondered about what she'd heard from the spy. Maybe she could help who her family was. These demigods didn't have to be her family. She could go to that camp, and make a him there, and... They would probably turn her away. But she had to try.
So one night, she snuck out, headed for Long Island. She only hoped that she'd make it there alive.
Weapon: Celestial bronze dagger
Powers: She can control the wind in her favor, but it takes a lot of energy. Usually she only used small breezes. (No flying. Only elongated jumps)
